UNIT 1D

UNIT 1D - Arts Research.

In this section I will be talking about what I have learnt from my mentors about getting into the film industry.  The person who influenced me the most, in pursuing film as a career was RYD COOK.

Ryd talked about how you need to have real passion and drive in order to succeed in the industry, and never giving up trying to develop your passion into into a career as a director.

When he spoke to the group, he said we should call ourselves 'film makers' right now, and keep using this title.

One of his most important tips was to make sure we take advantage of resources available to us (for example in School) and the support that is given to us.

He also inspired me to consider further education, and to studying a film related course at University.

He then spoke about how he didn't go to University but how he still managed to make a name and career for himself in film.

I think more than anything, Ryd taught me that filmmaking is about making mistakes, and learning from them.  Learning from mistakes will help to develop the skills and knowledge needed to turn ambition into a career.

At the time of writing, I have Directed two short short films, and am applying to study 'Film Making', or Film Production at University.  I have used the films, and my experience gained, within my personal statement for my application forms.
