UNIT 2A

UNIT 2A - Leadership Roles.

I feel that my personal leadership skills include:

- I feel have good confidence when it comes to meeting and engaging with new people, especially when they are equally interested and passionate about a subject as I am;
- I'm able to to use resources and my MKO (more knowledgeable others) effectively to ensure that I am learning and gaining further knowledge and skills from them;
- I am a good public speaker;
- I am able to motivate a group of individuals towards a common task / goal;

The leadership skills I wish  to develop are:

- I sometimes can be a perfectionist, which does not always help me when it comes to time management.  I can often spend too long trying to achieve something as I want to do everything well;
- I sometimes find it hard to take a passive role within a group.  I often find myself trying to solve every problem myself, and not letting the other people (who are specialised in their areas) to fulfil their own personal challenges;

Our challenge

As a collective we need to form an effective team in all of the stages of creating the film. We'll have to work together within the timeframe, and not exceed our budget, and yet still create a professional looking film.  I am fulfilling the role of the Director, which is certainly considered to be a leading role.

A quick rundown of the task, including planning, producing, and editing stages:

The BFI acadamy brings a group of talented young indeviduals together to create a short film using the same template as a profesional film crew would. This includes Pre-Production, Production, and Post-Production.

In the Pre-Production stage, we started with a Script written by Robert Wright which we broke down so we could look at every detail - the aim was to try to make the script our own.

Once we had analysed the script, we converted it into a storyboard - here we worked well as a team, and strategically crafted each panel so we could visualise what we want each shot to look like.

After all of the planing and Pre-Production was done, we moved to Production.  We had two days to film and record the sound in our two locations.

When the filming and recording was complete, we handed all the footage to our editor (Josh) whos task was to line up all of the audio with the visuals, edit all of the clips together, and the work on colour correction and title sequences.

The final part in our BFI project was to screen the end product at the Arts Picture House Cinema in Cambridge.

Please see UNIT 2C where I have given a description of what happened during our 2 day film shoot, and I have identified how effective leadership was used throughout the Production process and in the Pre-Production process.
